Reading Reflection No. 2
The Art of Social
Media, Power Tips for Power Users by Guy Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick
1. What was the general theme or argument of
the book?
The theme of the book is how to create and
effectively use social media to promote your business. The book gives 123 tips on what steps to
take, tools to use and how to structure your content to make lasting
impressions on your audience.
2. How did the book, in your opinion, connect
with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
For this class we have to submit blog
assignments, I have never written a blog post prior to taking this class. The book combines how blogging and social
media posts garner attention to your brand and expose the content you want to
share. Every week I have thought that
creating 3 blog posts was excessive as it is definitely time consuming, however
if you are trying to promote your business the recommendation is to post 3 blog
posts a day in addition to multiple social media posts. It is necessary to get the attention of your
followers and to keep your brand relevant.
3. If you had to design an exercise for this
class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
I would add creating a profile on Twitter
or Instagram of your business idea and learn how to create content that would
attract attention and hopefully customers to your type of business. The avatar created could be the company logo.
4.
What was
your biggest surprise or ‘aha’ moment when reading the book? In other words,
what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
I was not expecting the book to be so
informative and easy to read. Guy
Kawasaki does a great job narrating and giving useful tips along with
suggestions of tools and links (if reading the online version) along with
pictures that allow the reader to follow along.
I learned how important it is to be the one to tell your business story
and to ensure you are representing yourself in a way that draws positive
attention. In this day and age if you
are not the one spreading your own goodwill, then someone else can give your
company a bad name with their reviews and content. If you have nothing saying otherwise then
that is what other potential customers will see.
Hello Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that blog posts are recommended for promoting businesses. I always thought that blog posts were more for opinions than anything. The information in this book seems extremely relevant in today’s world because there are individuals who are able to make careers out of simply posting on social media. This can also be an extremely difficult thing to maintain because once you are trending on social media you are then under the public eye and subject to extreme scrutiny with all of your posts. Great job with your reflection.
